Berlin's own genre-bending trio, Sinularia, have just unleashed their new album ‘Subwater Beats II’, kicking up acid-soaked dust and diving into an entirely new sonic dimension. An album that defies easy categorisation in all the best ways, ‘Subwater Beats II’ pushes the envelope far past distant genres and into new dimensions altogether.
Sinularia, made up of the incredibly talented Jo Wespel on guitar and FX, Felix Henkelhausen on double-bass and FX, and Max Santner on drums and FX, have carved out their own unique sound, aptly titled, “Subwater Beats." Imagine the intricate, glitchy brilliance of Wonky beats and brazen IDM fused with the improvisational spirit of jazz and the lush soundscapes of electronica.
It's a vibrant tapestry of refreshing and blissfully unpredictable sounds, constantly keeping you guessing. While the band’s debut album, ‘Subwater Beats’, first introduced us all to Sinularia’s multi-layered sound, the new album has a way of amplifying things into a vivid and undeniable experience.
Unfolding over fourteen original tracks, ‘Subwater Beats II’ is a cacophony of complex rhythmic structures and bold creative choices. Songs like opening cut ‘Subwater Hipster’ and the stuttering ‘Focusing The Beauteousness’ are a lesson in following unconventional paths to great success, while ‘Kinky Shark Party’ and ‘Subaqueous Perplexity’ channel spikes of math rock into a free-falling digital soundscape.
Released today, ‘Subwater Beats II’ is a forward-thinking, speculative assembly of sounds that boil over into a wild creative vision. It’s an album that moves through genres and moods with ease, radiating a positive, intense, and incredibly creative energy.
Beyond their albums, Sinularia's live shows are a full-blown immersive experience. Their signature fluorescent jumpsuits and glowing corals, all illuminated by black light, transport audiences straight into an ethereal underwater world. It's a testament to their belief in creating a wholesome concert experience that engages all the senses. They've certainly made waves on the festival circuit, gracing stages at the likes of Überjazz Hamburg, What is Music Festival Burgos, and their very own Subwater Beats Festival in Dresden.
