Moody Mcivor Sheds the Dancefloor for Intimate Post-Punk In New Single

Chris Mcivor, the founder of the esteemed underground label Nerang Recordings, is embarking on a new artistic journey. Known to many for his club-centric work as DJ Whipr Snipr, Mcivor is stepping away from the dancefloor with his new project, Moody Mcivor. His debut single, ‘Ronnie Adelene,’ released on August 15th via Ronnie’s Records and Nerang Recordings, marks a significant and deeply personal shift in his musical expression.

‘Ronnie Adelene’ is a brooding and atmospheric track that feels both familiar and refreshingly new. It’s a compelling fusion of gothic textures, the mechanised melancholy of post-punk, and the expansive soundscapes of darkwave. The single takes cues from artists such as John Maus, Boy Harsher, Joy Division, and Black Marble, channeling their raw emotional power into a sound that is uniquely Mcivor’s. The result is a song that feels both like a nostalgic nod to the past and a vulnerable peek into his present.

Mcivor explains that the project’s genesis was a humble one, stating, "Originally, the project began in my bedroom – much like my label – and grew from a very personal, grassroots place.” This spirit of DIY creation is woven into the very fabric of the track. While Mcivor took the lead on the initial writing and recording, he enlisted the help of close friend and collaborator Felipe Bortoloti (Nørus) for the final touches. Bortoloti contributed arrangement tweaks, additional production, and handled the mixing and mastering, adding another layer of sonic depth to the single.

More than just a musical offering, Moody Mcivor is a testament to perseverance. Mcivor's journey to this point has been marked by personal hardship, and his music is a reflection of his resilience. "I’ve experienced some of life’s toughest challenges, yet I’m still here – as a father, a record label owner, and a creative,” he says. “That resilience, and the drive to keep moving forward no matter what, shapes my music and my story.”

‘Ronnie Adelene’ is not just a song; it's a statement. It’s the sound of an artist who has endured and emerged with something profound to share. This new chapter for Chris Mcivor is a compelling one, and ‘Ronnie Adelene’ is an exciting first glimpse into the emotional landscape of Moody Mcivor.
