Dublin’s alternative outfit KEELEY are back, and they aren't just bringing new tunes—they’re bringing an entire atmosphere. Fronted by singer-songwriter and guitarist Keeley Moss, the trio have recently unveiled ‘Hungry For The Prize’, the opening gambit from their third studio album, ‘Girl On The Edge Of The World’.
Since they first landed in 2021, the band has carved out a distinct space in the indie landscape, weaving together a tapestry of shoegaze fuzz, Britpop-infused melodies, and shimmering jangle-pop. However, this latest release feels like a significant evolution. While previous records were largely a studio-led collaboration between Moss and producer Alan Maguire, the new material sees the full touring line-up—featuring bassist Lukey Foxtrot and veteran drummer Andrew Paresi—taking a central role. The result is a more organic, driving sound that translates the energy of their live shows directly onto the tape.
For the uninitiated, KEELEY’s work carries a weight and purpose rarely seen in contemporary indie. Every track Moss writes serves as a memorial to Inga Maria Hauser, a German backpacker whose life was tragically cut short in Northern Ireland in 1988. Rather than focusing on the darkness of the crime, Moss uses her music to celebrate Inga’s spirit: her curiosity, her love of travel, and her youthful ambition.
‘Hungry For The Prize’ serves as the perfect introduction to this narrative-led record. It’s a track that feels like it’s constantly leaning forward, mirroring the excitement of a journey just beginning. Moss describes the track as a breakthrough in achieving the band’s specific aesthetic: “This record is the first time we’ve managed to capture what I call ‘the sonic swirl’ in our sound, the sound I’ve had in my head all along.”
Accompanying the single is a pensive music video directed by Laura Meek, providing a visual stillness that sits in fascinating contrast to the song’s restless momentum. It’s a compelling start to an album that promises to be a deeply immersive, emotionally resonant travelogue.
You can stream ‘Hungry For The Prize’ now on all major platforms, along with ‘Girl On The Edge Of The World’. Be sure to follow KEELEY on Facebook, Instagram, and X for the latest tour dates and updates.
