Sydney-raised, Tokyo-based electronic-pop prodigy Joey Sachi is set to cap off a year of relentless growth with the announcement of her striking new chapter, the EP entitled RISE. Scheduled for release on the 4th of December, the forthcoming record is heralded by the arrival of the mesmerising new single, ‘grace’—a fittingly titled track that showcases the artist’s unique capacity to blend haunting atmosphere with cinematic, immediate pop hooks.
Joey has spent much of 2024 solidifying the foundation laid in the preceding years, displaying a clear talent for crafting complex sonic playgrounds. Her distinctive blend of influences, which moves effortlessly between the textural electronica of Jamie xx and the contemporary R&B intimacy of Sabrina Claudio and Kenya Grace, has rightly captivated audiences. The track, recorded in Tokyo and produced by long-time collaborator AKINAT, is described by Joey herself as being “a good old-fashioned love song.” Musically, it weaves around the delicate lyrical performance in a charismatic and quietly powerful way, allowing the sentiment to take centre stage. The inspiration struck quickly, leading to an incredibly efficient creative process for the artist.
Speaking on the track, Joey explains the essence of the song, “...an ode to someone who changes the way you see the world. I wanted it to feel like a deep breath out, an easy kind of love and listen. It’s a quiet promise to look at your life differently, even shift perspective… to ‘see the beauty’ in every little thing. I wrote it in a single day. Unlike other songs in the past when I’ve constantly refined or reharmonised… with this track I barely changed a thing! As always, I brought it to my producer AKINAT, who has this innate understanding of the direction I want to take my music. He took my raw demo and transformed it into something that felt fresh and alive.”
The effortless nature of the creation is palpable in the final mix, resulting in a mature and introspective piece that still retains the danceable, electronic current that courses through Joey's best work.
