Perth’s own indie-rock trio, Polly, are currently navigating a meteoric trajectory through the Australian music landscape. Comprised of best mates Will, Rhyan, and Andy, the group has carved out a niche for themselves by blending gritty guitar textures with a palpable sense of emotional honesty. Their latest offering, ‘Doubt’, serves as a compelling bridge between their recent successes and a highly anticipated new chapter.
Accompanying the track is a striking music video that mirrors the song's internal tug-of-war. Sonically, ‘Doubt’ thrives on a specific kind of tension—the space between knowing a situation is detrimental and finding yourself unable to walk away. It is a theme that resonates deeply within the indie-rock tradition, yet Polly manages to inject it with a fresh, contemporary energy.
Speaking on the creative process behind the track, frontman Will explains: “‘Doubt’ came together pretty naturally once we locked into that chorus. It started from that feeling of being stuck in something you know isn’t right but not being able to let it go. There’s a bit of frustration in it, but also this weird acceptance — like you’re aware of what’s happening and still choosing to stay in it. It’s probably one of our favourites to play as a band because it just feels like it hits a different gear live. We’re really excited to finally get it out.”
This release acts as the lead-in for their forthcoming EP, titled 'Maybe', which is scheduled to land on 17 July. The announcement comes at a pivotal time for the band, who have already earned stripes supporting heavyweights like Spacey Jane, The Grogans, and Hockey Dad. Their calendar is only getting busier; they are currently gearing up for a high-profile support slot alongside Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, a pairing that promises to showcase Polly's high-octane live energy to a rapidly expanding audience.
Having already secured significant airplay on triple j and triple j Unearthed, the trio is proving that their brand of guitar-driven storytelling has a broad, national appeal. With ‘Doubt’, they have delivered a song that feels both intimate and expansive, setting the stage for what looks to be a defining year.
You can stream ‘Doubt’ now on all major digital platforms. To stay updated on the release of 'Maybe' and catch the latest tour dates, be sure to follow Polly on TikTok and Instagram.
