In Constance: Finding Light in the Shadows with ‘Live Everything’

Brisbane’s alternative rock landscape has a compelling new resident. In Constance have officially arrived with their debut EP, ‘Live Everything’, a seven-track collection that feels less like a first outing and more like the work of a group that has already weathered several lifetimes of emotional storms.

The record’s emotional heartbeat is the new single ‘Endings’. It is a track that breathes with a mid-tempo pulse, layered in shimmering guitar motifs that recall the expansive, atmospheric post-rock of American outfit Gates. While the song begins with delicate, airy passages, it quickly evolves. Driving percussion and vibrant lead guitars push the vocals towards a series of soaring belts, eventually fracturing into a cathartic finale that serves as the EP’s spiritual anchor.

Despite being a fresh name on the circuit, the members of In Constance are far from novices. The lineup boasts a staggering pedigree of industry experience: guitarist Jordan Bain has previously toured with Tia Gostelow and engineered for the likes of Jaguar Jonze and Hope D; Harry Verity has shared stages with prog-heavyweights Caligula's Horse and I See Stars; and drummer Dave Smith brings an international touring history alongside acts like Story of the Year and Funeral for a Friend.

This collective technical proficiency allows the band to tackle heavy themes with grace. Much of the EP is rooted in Jordan Bain’s adolescence, specifically the fallout of witnessing self-destructive patterns in those around him.

“These were some of the first songs I ever wrote while working through one of the darkest times of my life. I could barely play guitar at the time,” Bain reflects.

The title itself is a literary nod to Rainer Maria Rilke’s ‘Letters to a Young Poet’, a 1929 text that famously advises the reader to “live everything, live the questions for now” when the path ahead is obscured.

Following the early success of their single ‘Fairytale’—which garnered nods from triple j Unearthed and spots on Apple Music’s premier rock playlists—In Constance have already proven they can translate this studio polish to the stage, recently performing to a capacity crowd at Brisbane’s Black Bear Lodge.

You can stream ‘Live Everything’ and the lead single ‘Endings’ on all major platforms now. To keep up with their journey and future tour dates, follow In Constance on Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.
