Perth indie-rock trio Fool Nelson are showing no signs of pumping the brakes. Not only has their highly anticipated 'Bad Dreams' EP dropped today, cementing their reputation for crafting hook-laden sing-alongs, but the band have also announced a major expansion of their global team, signalling a huge new chapter. The EP tour is already in full swing, but it’s the music that’s currently doing the loudest talking.
'Bad Dreams' finds the band at their most confident and cohesive. It threads together anthemic, high-energy grooves with a genuine, heartfelt core, delivered with a warmth that's become their signature. With production and mixing handled by Andy Lawson (known for his work with The Buoys and Death by Denim) and mastering by George Georgiadis (Ruby Fields, Hockey Dad), the EP is a collection of tracks brimming with grit, charm, and depth.
Frontman Darcy Steven explained the driving force behind the release, "Overall, the EP is about sticking close to the people you love. Often we've found ourselves pushing away those relationships when things are difficult or uncertain, but we're learning to put those things first amidst anxiety, ambition, and uncertainty. For us, the EP definitely serves as a bit of an outlet for our anxieties, but hopefully also serves as a reminder of what's important."
This focus on raw, relatable vulnerability in the face of modern pressures is what has propelled Fool Nelson’s rapid rise. Their recent single, 'Big Shot', was a door-kicker that instantly led to their biggest national headline tour to date—including an all-ages hometown show in Boorloo/Perth that sold out in a mind-blowing 48 hours.
The trio are already well-loved by Australian radio, with their last five singles all securing rotation adds on triple j, and the recent title track 'Bad Dreams' cracking the station's top 5 most played. Their previous release, 'Don’t Feel Right', dominated the triple j airwaves for multiple weeks and lit up Shazam charts in Perth, Adelaide, and Melbourne. With prime playlist spots across Spotify and Apple Music worldwide, the band's international pull is undeniable.
This momentum is now backed by an expanded global team. Fool Nelson have partnered with Rick Bridgman of Good Intent for management and have signed a worldwide recordings deal with AWAL. Furthermore, worldwide bookings (excluding AU/NZ and North America) will now be handled by Harry Young at Pure Represents, marking a clear intention to take their infectious indie rock overseas.
Having impressed on festival stages at Groovin the Moo, NYE On The Hill, and HYPER FEST, as well as supporting luminaries like Spacey Jane, Ball Park Music, and The Grogans, the band is now looking ahead to a slot at Rolling Sets Festival. Fool Nelson are unequivocally the 'Ones To Watch' that triple j noted—and with 'Bad Dreams' finally here, they’re ready to prove it on a world stage.
