False Advertising Confront Inner Turmoil With Pop-Punk Punch

Manchester’s False Advertising have never been a band to shy away from the abrasive. Since their inception, the trio has carved out a reputation for “fuzz-noise pop” that feels as visceral as it does vulnerable. However, their latest offering, ‘Acid Rain’, sees them pivot toward a more frantic, immediate energy. Released on the 26th of February, the single serves as a high-octane preview of their highly anticipated album, 'The Sorry Window', arriving on the 1st of May.

Following the gritty foundations of previous singles ‘Don’t Ask Me’ and the album’s title track, ‘Acid Rain’ leans heavily into mid-2000s pop-punk. It is a sonic shift inspired by a fever dream Jen Hingley had of watching Fall Out Boy, yet it remains firmly rooted in the band’s signature grunge-inflected edge. While the tempo is elevated, the lyrical content remains characteristically raw, tackling the suffocating nature of mental health struggles.

“It’s not about sadness – it's about feeling attacked by your own insecurity and fighting back,” explains Hingley.

The track’s themes of inescapable corrosion are perfectly captured in the accompanying music video. Directed and edited by Hingley alongside Chris Forshaw, the visuals utilised traditional Japanese Suminagashi inks dropped into water over a submerged screen. The resulting analogue distortion creates a liquid, blooming effect that mirrors the song’s tension, blurring the lines between the band’s performance and an abstract, swirling abyss.

'The Sorry Window' itself marks a significant evolution for the group. Born from isolated demos during the pandemic following 2019’s Brainfreeze, the record eventually grew into a collaborative powerhouse. Co-produced by Luke Pickering (noted for his work with Fontaines D.C. and Arlo Parks) and mastered by Grammy-winner Kevin Tuffy, the album promises a journey through melodic rock, post-punk, and electronic textures.

Beyond the digital release, the band is engaging their community through a unique vinyl campaign. The record will only be pressed if pre-order targets are met, putting the physical future of the album directly into the fans' hands.
