Liverpool has a knack for producing bands that refuse to blend into the background, and new four-piece Dropstitch are no exception. Arriving with the force of a sudden downpour, the alternative metal outfit have dropped their debut track, 'Limerence'. It is a visceral, emotionally raw introduction that plunges straight into the disorienting vortex of romantic obsession—the painful loop of yearning for a connection that only exists in your own mind.
Musically, the song wastes no time making an impact. It kicks off with a blunt, hardcore riff before stripping back for a tense verse, only to erupt again with massive dynamic force. Dropstitch cleverly position themselves at the intersection of Alexisonfire's aggressive guitar work and Spiritbox's balance of ethereal melodies and fierce screaming. Yet, despite those nods to their influences, the track carves out a distinct identity. The driving rhythm section holds everything tightly together, allowing the arrangement to shift between technical precision and pure emotional chaos.
Lyrically, the song tackles an uncomfortable truth: the ache of an unrequited fixation. It maps out the internal frenzy of reading into every signal and replaying moments on a loop.
Speaking on the meaning behind the track, lead vocalist Marie Dixon explains: “It's a song about building an entire romantic relationship in your head that doesn't exist in reality. Whether that's because it isn't reciprocated, or because you're too afraid to let it be.”
Written by the band, the track was produced and mixed by guitarist Beesh, while bassist Luke handled the striking artwork. Backed by Jonty's heavy drumming, the quartet have retained absolute creative control. Having already turned heads live at the Invisible Wind Factory, the band are proving that they know exactly how to command a room. 'Limerence' is just the starting gun, with plenty more material already written and recorded.
