For Miami-born, LA-based artist 'CASANDRA', this internal audit takes centre stage on her latest single, 'WANT VS NEED'. Serving as the final teaser before her upcoming EP, 'ISLA TRANQUILITA', arrives on 15 May, the track is a masterstroke in atmospheric storytelling.
The production is vast and airy, providing a cinematic cradle for CASANDRA’s haunting, ethereal vocals. Here, she navigates the friction between our genuine instincts and the societal conditioning we absorb from a young age. It’s an exploration of how those early "lessons" can muffle our inner compass well into adulthood. By the time the track reaches its conclusion, however, the tone shifts from inquiry to reclamation.

The project’s title, 'ISLA TRANQUILITA'—Spanish for “little island of peace”—is far more than a poetic label. It is a heartfelt homage to her late great aunt Teresa, a Cuban émigré who provided a bedrock of emotional security during CASANDRA’s childhood. In times of stress, her aunt would offer the gentle refrain, 'tranquilita', a reminder to find a moment of stillness.
This sense of sanctuary became literal during the EP's creation. Battling significant health issues, CASANDRA found a restorative creative partner in producer Jaye Locke.
Together, they built a studio environment that felt safe and unhurried, allowing the music to breathe and evolve naturally. The result is a body of work that feels less like a product and more like a hard-won victory—a sonic distillation of her Cuban heritage, blending alt-pop and R&B into a space of genuine healing.
