Australian vocal powerhouse Budjerah is treating fans to one last glimpse of his highly anticipated debut album, 'Gentleman', before it officially lands on 24 July via Warner Music Australia. The multi-ARIA Award winner has unleashed his latest single, ‘Even At My Worst’, a track steeped in rich pop sensibilities and classic R&B undertones.
Co-written by the iconic American hitmaker Diane Warren and brought to life by legendary producer Om’Mas Keith, the song delves into the comfort of unconditional devotion. Against a backdrop of warm, nostalgic hooks, Budjerah delivers an emotive vocal performance celebrating the people who stand by you when the chips are down.
Reflecting on how the collaboration came to fruition, Budjerah shared: “I was very lucky to meet one of my songwriting heroes, Diane Warren, at her studios in Los Angeles. She gave me the song, and it really took me back to when I started writing myself, and my parents were supporting me the whole way. The lyrics reflected the gratitude I wanted to express to them for always supporting me. So this is my gratitude song.”
Stepping behind the lens for the first time, the Coodjinburra artist also pulled double duty by making his directorial debut for the track's official music video. Filmed on location in his idyllic hometown of Fingal Head, the clip bypasses flashy studio setups to shine a spotlight on his actual family and friends. By weaving together intimate snapshots of his upbringing, the video highlights the grounding communal love that fuels his music.
The new single follows a string of stellar album previews, including ‘Want You Back’, ‘Could I Be’, and the charismatic title track ‘Gentleman’. It adds another impressive chapter to a meteoric rise that has already seen the singer open massive stadium dates for Ed Sheeran, duet with Kylie Minogue, and rack up more than 60 million career streams.
