Kansas City’s premier storyteller, Brian Gerald Bulger, has officially unveiled his most ambitious project to date: a dual-medium exploration of the human heart titled 'Thank God I’m Far From Heaven'. Released on 9th January 2026, the project comprises a hauntingly intimate five-track EP and a deeply personal memoir.
Bulger has built a reputation for crafting "comfortable and warm" folk music that acts as a soft place to land, even when navigating the harshest emotional terrains. However, this new body of work promises a deeper dive into the shadows of his past. The memoir serves as a literary tapestry of poems and prose, documenting his journey through the loss of his siblings, his departure from religious structures, and the painstaking process of finding equilibrium after trauma.
Speaking on the evolution of his craft, Bulger shared, "The EP and the book are interconnected and help tell the story of my childhood, losing my sister and my brother, leaving religion, and how to find peace and stability after trauma. Just as I promised when I decided to change my artist name (I added my middle name), I am starting 2026 with an emphasis on myself as a writer first, then a singer. I hope this project can be a balm to those who have experienced grief of any kind."
"The cover is a painting by Madeline Brice (@madelinebrice.art) titled, a 'real deal motherfucker'. I’m very grateful to Madeline for letting me use her incredible work. My friend, the amazing writer Brooke Spalding-Ford (@brookespalding), is the editor of the book. The EP was co-produced by Grady Philip Drugg (@gpd420), Ephriam McFarland (@ephmcf), and me. More info to come. Kiss kiss, hug hug.”
Fans previously got a taste of this new era with the single '2007 Ice Storm', arriving on 4th December, but now the full EP is ready to take the music scene by storm. Following the January release, Bulger will hit the road alongside lo-fi indie-folk sensation Hudson Freeman. The tour kicks off on 3rd March in Pittsburgh, winding through the Midwest and beyond, offering a live experience that promises to be as healing as it is heartbreaking.
