Arky Waters Ignites the Dance Floor with Bass-Heavy Single ‘Molly’

The countdown to Arky Waters’ highly anticipated debut album has officially entered its next phase. The Australian producer and DJ, known for his slick ability to blend grit with melody, has just unleashed his latest club weapon, ‘Molly’. Released via Mammal Sounds Records, the track serves as a high-octane preview of the sonic diversity we can expect from his upcoming full-length record.

Following a string of successful releases like ‘OMG’ and ‘Ay Papi’, ‘Molly’ sees Waters leaning heavily into his club roots. It is an unapologetic nod to the energy of the late-night circuit, trading intricate indie-folk textures for a driving, bass-house foundation. The track is built for the floor, characterised by its infectious momentum and those massive, uplifting drops that have become a hallmark of his recent sets.

The inspiration for the track stems from Waters’ early experiences in the electronic scene, specifically the seamless genre-bending of trap pioneers. Speaking on the track’s creation, Waters admits he wanted to capture a specific type of unbridled energy:

“I just wanted to make some dance music that was fun and dumb. When I first started experiencing club music, I remember the trap DJs always cutting in some bass house in their sets. It was a fun way to provide an energy switch during the set, so I wanted to make something similar. For some of my friends that I’ve shown it to, it’s their favourite track on the record!”

The Sydney-based artist, whose real name is Thomson Phan, has been steadily carving out a unique lane for himself since his 2020 debut. While his earlier work often reflected a love for analog synths and suburban nostalgia, ‘Molly’ showcases a more playful, functional side of his production style. It’s a track designed to pivot the mood of a room—a "switch" that is already proving to be a fan-favourite among those close to the project.

As the debut album approaches, ‘Molly’ stands as a testament to Waters' versatility. If this latest single is any indication, the upcoming LP is set to be a masterclass in modern electronic production, balancing heavy-hitting club anthems with the nuanced textures that first put him on the map.
