Maitland singer-songwriter Angela Rose is steadily building a reputation for weaving deeply emotional narratives through an inventive blend of folk, pop, and country sounds. Returning with her poignant new single, ‘Cowboy Of Mine’, the artist delivers an atmospheric landscape that marries genuine nostalgia with an undeniably fresh production edge.
The piece explores the delicate, quiet heartbreak of coming to terms with a relationship that failed to match initial expectations. Rather than sinking into sorrow, the track holds space for grace and quiet optimism, striking a balance between grief and personal freedom.
“At its heart, the song is about loving and letting go, and accepting someone for who they are rather than trying to make them stay,” Rose reveals. “The idea was inspired by an old saying my Nanna shared with me that I’ve always carried: “If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it’s yours. If not, it was never meant to be.” ‘Cowboy of Mine’ is my bittersweet take on that sentiment, and the idea of trusting that what’s meant for you will always find its way home, which is something I truly believe.”
The creative spark ignited following a trip to the Tamworth Country Music Festival, prompting Rose to combine her early musical influences with her signature indie-pop sensibilities. Partnering with producer Pete Covington, she shaped an arrangement that reflects her evolving creative direction, complete with vibrant percussion by The Preatures’ Luke Davison and subtle pedal steel textures.
“Being surrounded by so much country music reminded me how much I love the genre and made me want to explore those roots more deeply in my own songwriting,” Rose says. “Luke Davison (The Preatures) brought the drums to life, and adding pedal steel felt like the perfect finishing touch.”
Marking her third release of 2026—following the success of ‘Doomed’ and ‘Down To The Bone’—the single solidifies her trajectory within the Australian music landscape. Having shared stages with notable names like King Stingray, Ball Park Music, and Angus and Julia Stone, Rose has firmly established herself as a lasting talent rather than a fleeting sensation.
