1tbsp and Cherry Chola Reconnect for Dance-Punk ‘Pink Dress’

Australian producer 1tbsp is keeping his prolific streak alive this week with the release of his latest single, ‘Pink Dress’. The track sees the Brisbane-based artist (the house-leaning moniker of Maxwell Byrne) reunite with Australian-Venezuelan powerhouse Cherry Chola for a record that swaps sun-drenched house for a grittier, high-energy bite.

The pair’s creative history stretches back several years, beginning with their rapid-fire collaboration on the fan-favourite ‘Limosina’. While their earlier work played with smoother textures, ‘Pink Dress’ pushes their shared chemistry into a bolder, dance-punk territory. It’s an evolution that 1tbsp attributes to his collaborator’s chameleonic vocal ability.

“Fabiola (Cherry Chola) and I wrote together for the first time a couple of years ago, making ‘Limosina’ in about an hour before she had to run to another session. Fabby is quite prolific, and since then we’ve made a lot of music together. I love how her voice sits on different styles, and we got to explore that more on pink dress and on my upcoming album big soaps; a mutli-genre dance record that’s out on August 7th via my own label dottidot, and French imprint Recherche et Developpement.” ~ 1tbsp

To match the track’s jagged energy, Byrne has delivered a self-directed music video filmed on the streets of Sydney. Although the song was crafted entirely within the digital confines of Ableton, the visual opts for a raw, performance-led aesthetic. Featuring Cherry Chola alongside Soltera and Sonido Sex on live instrumentation, the video successfully bridges the gap between the producer’s laptop-built beats and the visceral feel of a live band.

“We shot the music video in Sydney together with Soltera and Sonido Sex on keys & drums. Pink Dress felt like a strong step into a more dance punk direction, so it was fun to reflect that by having a band in the video, even though everything in the song was made on Ableton.” ~ 1tbsp

The release serves as a final primer for 1tbsp’s highly anticipated sophomore album, big soaps, arriving this August. It’s been a whirlwind season for the producer, who recently dropped the Soltera-assisted ‘Soulseek’ and confirmed a massive 2026 schedule, including his Coachella debut, a North American ‘bubble tour’, and a month-long residency at London’s Phonox this May.
