Fresh off the back of announcing their upcoming full-length project 'Concrete Cowboy', Australian indie-rock outfit The Buoys are giving fans another taste of what is to come with their latest cut, ‘Alone In Vegas’.
While the band has carved out a fierce reputation for delivering high-energy, razor-sharp rock anthems, ‘Alone In Vegas’ leans into a softer, more delicate landscape. The track strips back the heavy distortion to highlight the tender, heartfelt songwriting that has consistently grounded their music. Drawing creative sparks from the 80s cult classic film 'Desert Hearts', the song serves as an uplifting escape, trading sheer grit for pure emotional warmth.
Elaborating on the narrative behind the music, the band explain: “‘Alone In Vegas’ is kind of like a sequel to Desert Hearts (1985) which ends without you knowing if the two lead characters, Cay and Vivian have a happily ever after. ‘Alone In Vegas’ imagines that Cay and Vivian run into each other in the future in Vegas before getting married and moving to New York together”.
The single provides a fascinating glimpse into the expansive world of Concrete Cowboy, scheduled for release on October 23. Helmed by producer Chris Collins and featuring collaborative songwriting with Alistair Hayes, Fletcher Matthews, Konstantin Kerstin, and Dylan Ollivierre, the record draws from a wide palette of influences ranging from The 1975 and HAIM to Roman poetry and dreamscapes.
This new era follows a massive trajectory for the group after their 2024 debut album 'Lustre' landed at #7 on the ARIA charts and earned a nomination for triple j’s Australian Album of the Year.
To celebrate the release, The Buoys will take their new material on the road this October for the 'Concrete Cowboy' headline tour, hitting Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, and Hobart. Shortly after, the four-piece will support rock royalty Foo Fighters at Newcastle’s McDonald Jones Stadium on November 12.
