Soup On Tap Sprout a New Sound with 'Peach Tree'

Melbourne’s emerging indie darlings Soup On Tap have blossomed, ushering in a new era with their latest single, ‘Peach Tree’. Formerly known as Middle St, the band has returned with a fresh, poignant piece of guitar-driven introspection that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant. 'Peach Tree' is a candid coming-of-age anthem that navigates the choppy waters of vulnerability and self-honesty when embarking on a new relationship.

The track is an intricate tapestry of sound, weaving together melodic synths, a rock-solid rhythm section, and a raw, emotive vocal performance. It’s the kind of song that gets under your skin, its narrative hitting home for anyone who’s ever faced the fear of opening up. As frontman Oscar Dean explains, “The lyrics were written around the idea of starting a new relationship, and the fear and anxieties that come along with that. It’s a story about how the best way to portray yourself is to confront all the internal fear and self-doubt, start at level one, be honest with what you want. At the end of the day, it’s a song about being your best self.”

Recorded at the esteemed Grove Studios, the single was a collaborative effort, produced by Soup On Tap alongside Jackson Weibe, who also handled the mixing. The final polish was applied by Joe Carra at Crystal Mastering, resulting in a sound that’s a warm, compelling mix of gritty optimism and melodic charm. The track showcases the band's diverse influences, with echoes of Violent Soho’s raucous energy, the melodic sensibilities of Twin Peaks and Parcels, and even a nod to the timeless artistry of David Bowie and the heartfelt storytelling of Folk Bitch Trio.

'Peach Tree' feels like the ultimate expression of the band's mission: to create music that pulses with good vibes and genuine emotion. The journey for Soup On Tap has been a long one, with roots stretching back to frontman Oscar Dean and Alex's busking days in Albury at the tender age of 14. Now a tight-knit four-piece with three singles to their name, they are constantly evolving and refining their signature sound. This evolution is also palpable in their live shows, which have been turning heads and earning them support slots for international acts like Berlin Psycho Nurses and Bakers Eddy at iconic Melbourne venues like The Curtin and The Evelyn. With ‘Peach Tree’, Soup On Tap aren’t just back—they’re thriving.
