The alternative rock scene is buzzing with the latest offering from Midnight Housework. Their new single, 'Just to be Enough,' is a testament to the magic of spontaneity in music creation. Released last Friday, the track is the fourth single from the band and was recorded and produced by the acclaimed Jonny Woods at 1980something studios.
Unlike the band’s previous, more premeditated work, 'Just to be Enough' was a product of a happy accident. The song's genesis began with a guitar riff from the band's guitarist, Fez, which was originally intended to be a small part of a different track. As the band’s vocalist recalls, “Fez brought it in and told us he had a new part to try slot into the song, but as soon as he started playing it, we all instinctively erupted into a completely different jam that went on for about 8 minutes. When we were finished, I said ‘sh*t man, I think that's actually just a new song.’”
What began as an extended jam session was eventually trimmed down, polished, and spiced up to become the upbeat, vibrant track we now have. The rhythm section, affectionately dubbed the “rhythm bros,” Blaine and Luke, had the groove locked in immediately. The song's heavy vibe and undeniable energy were instantly apparent, making it a live show favourite long before its official release. The band's decision to record it next was an easy one after seeing the crowd’s enthusiastic response.
Lyrically, the song tackles a universal sentiment—the struggle to feel worthy. The lyrics get straight to the point, exploring the feeling of not being enough for a situation or a person. “I'm sure we've all felt that way at some point,” the band shares. “‘Just to be Enough’ is saying you're not alone and you most definitely ARE enough, despite how hard that can feel at times.”
With its driving rhythm, uplifting message, and undeniable charm, the song is a perfect fit for the change of seasons. Midnight Housework hopes the positive "vibe resonates with you all." And with a sound this fresh, it's safe to say it will.
