MAY-A Unleashes Sonic Fury with New Single ‘Catching Up 2 U’

Australia’s indie-pop powerhouse MAY-A is kicking off 2026 by leaning into her heaviest impulses. With her highly anticipated debut album, 'Goodbye (If You Call That Gone)', just weeks away from its 20 February release, the singer-songwriter has unleashed ‘Catching Up 2 U’. This isn't just a track; it’s a high-octane exercise in musical exorcism that serves as the second chapter in a cinematic three-part trilogy.

Following on from the grit of ‘Claws’, the new single finds MAY-A trading her signature shimmering pop melodies for something far more jagged and visceral. Recorded with a heavyweight production team including Carlos de la Garza and drummer Ilan Rubin, the track’s DNA is soaked in 90s alt-rock nostalgia.

“This song is about spite, vengeance and karmic return,” MAY-A says. “I felt like it was a pretty solid opener for the album due to the tempo and it sets the tone of the tracks thematically, really chucking you into the centre of the story. The song started as an idea that Chloe (Dadd), my guitarist and I were jamming out in her garage and ended with us re-tracking and fine-tooth combing the parts with Carlos De La Garza and drummer Ilan Rubin. I was pretty mad writing this song so it felt good to get all the anger out, I’d been listening to lots of Garbage and Hole and No Doubt and I feel like we landed in a pretty good place with this one.”

The single marks the culmination of an explosive twelve months for the artist. From supporting Glass Animals to being handpicked by the legendary Cyndi Lauper for a duet in Sydney, MAY-A has evolved from a rising star into a formidable live force. Alongside bandmates Chloe Dadd and G on the Drums, she has spent the tail end of 2025 road-testing this new material at festivals like Rolling Sets, proving that her upcoming record is built for the stage.

'Goodbye (If You Call That Gone)' represents two years of meticulous curation. By blending her raw, garage-born ideas with the polished expertise of collaborators like Chris Greatti, MAY-A has crafted a debut that feels both intimate and expansive. If ‘Catching Up 2 U’ is any indication, we should prepare for a record that doesn't just ask for our attention—it demands it.
