MAY-A Announces Her Raw and Genre-Shattering Debut Album

It has been a highly anticipated moment for fans, and today, MAY-A has finally lifted the lid on the biggest project of her career yet: her debut album, 'Goodbye (If You Call That Gone)', which is set for release on February 20, 2026. The announcement confirms that the Sydney-based singer-songwriter is ready to graduate from acclaimed alt-pop rising star to a main stage artist with a serious, cohesive statement.

To curate this new era of music, the genre-defying artist has spent the last two years travelling between her home city and Los Angeles. This trans-Pacific journey saw her connecting with a truly formidable list of collaborators, signalling the record’s sonic ambition. Working alongside Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame drummer Ilan Rubin (Nine Inch Nails, Foo Fighters), Chloe Dadd, Robby De Sa, and powerhouse producers Carlos De La Garza (Paramore) and Chris Greatti (Yungblud, Willow), the album is poised to be an eclectic yet focused masterclass in blurring the lines between pop, rock, indie, and alternative music.

While MAY-A is already known for her intimate and relatable approach to songwriting, the album promises to be her boldest declaration of personal power and artistry to date. She describes the emotional landscape of the work: "'Goodbye (If You Call That Gone)', is a mirror of the healing process in all its complexity, an amalgamation of loss, betrayal, anger, resentment, and, most importantly, the quiet triumph of moving through what once felt impossible,” MAY-A muses.

“When people talk about change, they often skip over the uncomfortable, messy parts. This record doesn’t. It dives into the raw, unfiltered emotions that come with transformation, amplifying the darkness that in turn, makes the light mean something. This album wasn’t easy to write, there were definitely points where giving up felt easier than pushing through, but I needed the catharsis, it is a representation of a time in my life and the emotions I was dealing with. I wanted to take listeners on a journey. We’ve all had someone who’s made us feel small, stripped us of who we thought we were, until we barely recognised ourselves. This record is about finding your way back from that."

This journey of self-reclamation has been foreshadowed by the recent singles. The release of the angry, heavier-toned ‘Claws’ today follows last month’s euphoric, guitar-led pop rock queer anthem, ‘(I’m here for the) GIRLS’, and September’s opening track, ‘[REDACTED]’. This trio of tracks showcases the wide-ranging sound that defines MAY-A’s output, confirming her talent for turning deeply personal experience into universally felt, catchy hooks. This debut is shaping up to be essential listening.

You can pre-save the upcoming album today, and be sure to follow MAY-A today on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and X.
