Sydney four-piece Lapse are making a striking entrance into the Australian indie-rock scene with their debut single, ‘October’. Formed in mid-2025 by Ryan Mulligan, Bri Goss, Jas Hardwick and Dan Hocking, the band’s origin story is as modern as their sound—a blend of high school connections, interstate moves and even a chance match on Hinge.
Rooted in the emotional honesty that defines contemporary indie, Lapse channel a relatable mix of angst and introspection. Fans of Spacey Jane, The 1975 and Pacific Avenue will instantly connect with their earnest songwriting, which wrestles with mental health, interpersonal friction and the chaotic transition through one's twenties.
Brought to life with producer Daniel Antix at Def Wolf Studios and polished through mixing and mastering by George Georgiadis at Little Wing Sound, ‘October’ delves into the heavy guilt of self-preservation. It tackles the quiet heartbreak of choosing what is best for your own path, even when that decision inadvertently hurts someone else.
As frontman Ryan Mulligan explains, “‘October’ reflects on the push-and-pull of relationships you know you need to distance yourself from, but where struggling to let go creates an endless loop of uncertainty”.
Drummer Bri Goss echoes this sentiment, placing the track's emotional intent front and centre: “We hope ‘October’ gives people the space to sit with those feelings and remind them they are not alone. If it can help even one person feel understood, then the song has done what we hoped”.
The single serves as the very first taste of Lapse's upcoming debut EP, set to arrive later this year. Live audiences can catch the band supporting Charlie Pittman at Wollongong’s Towradgi Beach Hotel on 24 July, before they headline their official single launch at the Taren Point Hotel in Miranda on Saturday, 1 August, alongside Polybius and Liv Brown.
