Guernsey’s premier alternative rock outfit, Coastal Fire Dept., are breaking their recent silence with a thunderous declaration of intent. Following a notably quiet 2025, the champions of ‘grunge from the Vale’ have announced their fourth studio album, 'Bonfire Of Fevoured Egos', set for release this September. To kick off this new chapter, the band has unleashed their fierce new lead single, ‘Come Together’.
From the opening spike of guitar feedback, the track propels listeners into familiar sonic territory, albeit with a noticeably amplified muscle. The core trio of Ollie Goddard (vocals/guitar), Saad Frihmat (bass), and Ozzy Austin (drums)—now expanded to a four-piece with guitarist Jon Langlois, though he does not appear on this session—have noticeably beefed up their six-string assault. The result is a heavy, driving sound reminiscent of the gritty edge of Irish alt-rockers Therapy? mixed with the volatile dynamics of Nirvana and Pixies.
Goddard’s vocal performance reaches a striking new intensity here. Shifting away from relying on guest vocalists for the heavier moments, he delivers raw, ‘impassioned screams’ that anchor the track's emotional weight. Inspired by the unifying power of live music in the UK, the song confronts the forces that divide us — politics, religion, ethnicity, and voices of hate. Written by Ollie, it delivers a positive, defiant message: “nothing should stop people from respecting one another and coming together over a shared love of music.”
Refreshing for the digital streaming era, the single arrives with a proper B-side: a blistering rendition of The Vaselines’ classic ‘Molly’s Lips’. A staple of their live sets, this version injects a punchier, modern weight into the forty-year-old indie anthem while preserving its infectious, bouncy energy. Complete with a chaotic, noisy guitar solo, it functions as a brief, joyous racket that perfectly complements the thoughtful aggression of the A-side.
Formed in 2013, Coastal Fire Dept. have spent over a decade perfecting their nostalgic yet vital brand of 90s rock. With this release, they have arguably found their most potent combination of sonic power and societal purpose yet.
‘Come Together’ is out now on L’Islet Records. You can stream the new single on Spotify and Apple Music today. To stay updated on the upcoming album 'Bonfire Of Fevoured Egos' and future tour dates, follow Coastal Fire Dept. on Facebook, Instagram, and X.
