Today, we’re buzzing with the arrival of a new single from Clemesco, a talented artist that you won’t soon forget. Clemesco, the musical moniker of Austin-based artist Christiane Escobar, has recently shared her debut single, ‘Small’, a captivating introduction to an artist who describes her work as "musical escapism."
An undeniably ensnaring blend of electro-pop, indie, and ambient textures, ‘Small’ stems from a slice of classic indie rock, taking flight from her time “obsessively listening’ to Interpol’s ‘Turn On The Bright Lights’. Throughout, the heavier tones that shine in Interpol’s earlier work are balanced with lighter acoustic and cascading synth lines that bloom beautifully around the two-minute mark. It creates a haunting, but wonderfully familiar sound that any indie fan will connect with.
Lyrically, ‘Small’ is a deeply personal piece. Christiane explains, “I grew up the third daughter to a man who simply wanted a son. This song is me making peace with that reality, and learning how to forgive him, myself, and vocalising that being small is not such a bad thing.”
This depth bleeds into every part of ‘Small’, a tender and enchanting song built on delicate acoustic guitar. Over this gentle foundation, Christiane’s vocals, tinged with a haunting, ambient quality, lay the groundwork for a truly transportive experience. Stepped percussion eventually rolls into the mix, pushing the song forward without ever breaking its delicate atmosphere.
This deeply felt narrative, touching on themes of acceptance and forgiveness, will be further explored on Christiane’s upcoming debut EP, scheduled for release in January 2026. The record is set to dig deeper into themes of faith, guilt, and transformation, all stemming from her complex relationship with religion and family.
If ‘Small’ is any indication, this EP is poised to be an unmissable and profoundly moving listening experience. You can stream ‘Small’ above, and for more, be sure to connect with Christiane on Instagram.
