Analog Warmth and Human Tides Combine In Cmon’s New Single

On the 6th of February, Sheffield-based artist Cmon returns to the spotlight with his latest single, ‘Sink Down To You’. It is a track that eschews the polished, sanitised sheen of modern digital production in favour of something far more tactile: the rustic, undulating hiss of a four-track cassette recorder.

Cmon, the moniker of Carlos Montero, is no stranger to the industry. Having spent years as a guitarist in the hardcore and pop-punk circuits, most notably with Youth Killed It, this solo venture marks a shift towards a more intimate, alternative folk sensibility. Recorded entirely in his dining room on a Tascam 424 MKII, the track pays homage to the lo-fi legends like Elliott Smith and John Frusciante who found beauty in the "wow and flutter" of tape.

The song is a poignant exploration of the transient nature of human connection. Using water as a central metaphor, Montero explores the "ebb and flow" of the past year—a period defined by friendships that flared up with intensity before quietly receding.

The production is intentionally stripped back. Utilising only a single SM57 microphone, Montero double-tracked guitars and vocals to achieve an ethereal, shimmering quality that feels both haunting and grounded. In a landscape increasingly dominated by AI-generated perfection, Montero’s choice to master the track directly from his home studio is a deliberate act of creative rebellion.

Born from a tumultuous few years and the grief of losing loved ones, the track is ultimately a "heartfelt slice of folk where poetry and soul combine." Having already graced stages like the Isle of Wight Festival, Montero is currently embedding himself in the Sheffield scene via open mics and support slots, bringing a message of resilience to his local community.

‘Sink Down To You’ is more than just a song; it is a vulnerable, analogue reminder of the depth found in every passing soul. You can pre-save the single today ahead of its release on February 6th, and for more, join Cmon on Instagram and Facebook.
