Amy Shark Returns With Anthemic New Single and Album News

After nearly two years of relative silence on the airwaves, Australia’s indie-pop royalty Amy Shark is back, and she isn’t pulling any punches. The multiple ARIA Award winner has officially broken her hiatus with a scathing yet sun-drenched new single, ‘The Biggest Dick’, while simultaneously confirming that her fourth studio album, 'soft pop', will arrive on 31 July.

The new track is a guitar-heavy return to the raw, indie-leaning sound that first catapulted Shark into the global spotlight. Accompanied by a music video that finds Amy cycling through her hometown of the Gold Coast, the song manages to find beauty in the mundane moments of moving on.

Reflecting on the track’s inspiration, Amy explains: "’The Biggest Dick’ is about celebrating all the little wins you have when you’re feeling low. Things like coffees and blue skies. It’s the ultimate breakup song. A little bit sad a little bit vulnerable, a little bit uplifting but mainly.. a big F U! You big dick."

The announcement of the new album has sent shockwaves through the industry, primarily due to its unique creative process. Recorded with long-term collaborator Dann Hume in a converted Welsh church, the record features no guest spots, no co-writers, and—in a bold stylistic shift—no drums. Shark spent a month in total isolation in her apartment to write the project, ensuring the final result was a visceral, unfiltered reflection of her own psyche.

"I’m so proud of 'soft pop' and so excited to share this world with my fans," Amy says. "We created something that feels incredibly special on this album. There’s truly something here for everyone, and the process of bringing it to life has been challenging, full of joy and honestly life changing. Strap in as we reveal the record step by step. I hope you find something beautiful, relatable and deeply human in every drop of 'soft pop'."

2026 is shaping up to be the Year of the Shark. When she isn’t critiquing the next generation of talent as a judge on Australian Idol, Amy is preparing for her big-screen debut. She is set to star alongside Russell Crowe in the gritty drama 'BEAST', hitting cinemas on 23 April.

You can pre-order 'soft pop' now, and for more on the run up to the album, be sure to catch Amy shark on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and X.
