A Swift Farewell Drop Explosive Charli XCX Cover with 'Talk Talk'

Sydney’s favourite emo pop-punk trio, A Swift Farewell, are finishing their monumental year with a bang, unleashing their electrifying new single: a high-energy, Punk Goes Pop rendition of Charli XCX’s hit, ‘Talk talk (ft. Troye Sivan)’. The track is out now and serves as the final release from the band in 2025, wrapping up what has been a truly massive period of growth and success.

Taking the sleek electro-pop of the original and infusing it with their signature blend of soaring vocals, punchy guitar riffs, and raw emotional screams, the band has successfully breathed new life into the track. The decision to cover Charli XCX is a clear nod to the iconic 'Punk Goes Pop' compilation albums of the 2010s, which deeply influenced the band's youth with standout contributions from acts like A Day To Remember and Pierce The Veil.

Despite tackling a cover, A Swift Farewell maintain a fierce commitment to their roots, ensuring the track seamlessly blends their pop sensibilities with an unmistakable punk edge. According to band member Gabrielle Michael, the cover is about more than just musical fun, “We all grew up listening to Punk Goes Pop covers from our favourite artists, so we thought it would be exciting for us to follow in their footsteps and create something fun, whilst also encapsulating the importance of our queer community - modern day queer culture meets emo nostalgia.”

The release follows the strong reception of their debut 'Hollow Threats' EP, which critics praised for its emotional depth and dynamic sound, garnering national support from tastemakers like triple j, Double J, and various key media outlets. The band has spent the year consistently proving their mettle in the Australian alternative scene, sharing stages with notable international and local acts such as As December Falls (UK), Lil Lotus (USA), Yours Truly, and Future Static. Their ability to channel infectious energy and raw emotion has translated into a deeply loyal fanbase, highlighted by a sold-out debut EP headline show at Sydney’s Burdekin Hotel.

With ‘Talk talk’, A Swift Farewell remind listeners exactly why they are a leading name in Australia's new wave of emo pop-punk. The track is a perfect summary of their talent—an unapologetic, exciting fusion that honours the past while fiercely driving the genre forward. This cover perfectly encapsulates their dual love for both pop and punk culture.
