A New Dawn for Aussie Pop: Oliver Cronin Returns with ‘Eyes Wide Shut’

The silence of the last twelve months has finally been broken. Oliver Cronin, the Byron Bay-born artist who has spent the last few years quietly reshaping the landscape of Australian pop, is back. His latest offering, ‘Eyes Wide Shut’, arrived today via Warner Music Australia, and it is far more than just a catchy follow-up; it is the definitive flag-drop for a brand-new creative chapter.

Since his 2022 debut EP 'Beautiful Nightmare'—which birthed the TikTok-fuelled phenomenon ‘Boys Don’t Cry’—Cronin has moved with a calculated speed. He has shared stages with the likes of Nessa Barrett and Natalie Jane, performed for global audiences from India to SXSW Sydney, and secured a nomination for “Best New Artist” at the 2024 Shure Rolling Stone Awards. Now, after a year of refining his craft, he is ready to lean into a more mature sonic identity.

‘Eyes Wide Shut’ finds Cronin at his most confident, blending a driving pop pulse with the velvety R&B textures that have become his hallmark. It is a record that feels both expansive and deeply intimate, designed for late-night drives and heavy rotation alike. Speaking on the release, Oliver explains the shift in his approach:

“Being the first single off my next project ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ represents a shift to a more organic, authentic and vulnerable sound. Over the last 12 months I’ve been exploring and blurring the lines of pop and RNB, and this song is the perfect way to introduce this next sound. Lyrically this next era is a bit of a shift to a more personal tone, focused around love and growth. With that being said we wanted ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ to kind of serve as an 'anti-cheating' anthem.”

This evolution follows a productive 2024, which saw him sign with Warner Records globally—joining a stable that includes heavyweights like Teddy Swims and Benson Boone. Between the success of his 'Halfway To Paradise' EP and high-profile collaborations with artists like Topic and Connor Price, Oliver has proven he can thrive in any lane. However, ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ feels like his most grounded work to date, trading the neon-drenched polish of his earlier tracks for something more raw and resonant.

You can stream ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ on all major platforms now. To keep up with Oliver’s journey towards his next project, be sure to follow him on Instagram and TikTok for the latest updates.
