Following a monumental, sold-out headline appearance last November, Sydney’s own dark-folk architect Lorenzo is returning to the spotlight. This time, however, the gate is open; the songwriter has announced a select run of free performances in Sydney and Melbourne, designed to bring his visceral storytelling back to the community that shaped him.
Drawing heavily from the lineage of legendary truth-tellers like Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, and his primary North Star, Leonard Cohen, Lorenzo’s music is a masterclass in organic vulnerability. His journey hasn't been a straight line to the stage. After spending his formative years busking on Sydney’s pavements—collecting the metaphorical "dents and scratches" that define his gritty, fingerpicked style—he briefly stepped away from the industry to navigate the corporate world.
Yet, the pull of the ‘Tower of Song’ proved too strong. Now balancing a "daylight" role at the Department of Health, Lorenzo has turned the mundane nature of the desk job into a fresh "source of ash to blacken the pages" of his notebooks. This return to form is best captured in his latest work, ‘Rue Saint-Denis’, a track born in a Montreal hotel room that acts as a heartfelt gratitude letter to the global folk scene.
The Live and Free Tour hits Sappho Bar in Sydney on 9 May 2026, followed by a performance at Brunswick Artists’ Bar in Melbourne on 24 June 2026. While RSVPs aren’t strictly required, space is limited; fans are encouraged to contact the venues directly to secure a table for what promises to be a hauntingly beautiful evening.
The decision to waive entry fees for these upcoming dates is a deeply personal one. Recalling his own days as a cash-strapped student, Lorenzo envisioned a "kitchen table" style concert series. With the cost of living biting hard, he felt it was the right moment to offer something back, noting that “it feels as though we get charged for even daring to step outside our front doors.”
Expect a commanding performance that belies the solo-acoustic setup. Lorenzo’s signature silhouette—draped in his iconic troubadour black—pairs a powerful baritone vocal with guitar virtuosity that ranges from delicate folk to intense, percussive dynamics.
