Victoria Tyler is an artist who doesn't just write songs; she crafts lifelines. With a voice that sings the truth and a melody that turns survival into strength, her music is a beacon for those navigating the darkest moments in life. Inspired by her children and a deep-seated belief that her voice can help others, she tackles challenging subjects like addiction, suicide, and healing with a raw honesty that’s both brave and comforting.
Her latest single, ‘Just Go’, is a perfect example of this philosophy and ethos. A timeless piano-pop track that meanders with a nineties-inspired elegance, it’s a quietly motivational song that shines with a powerful, relatable message: to find courage in the small steps and embrace the unknown.
We recently sat down with Victoria to discuss her incredible journey, the story behind her new single, and her mission to bring genuine, meaningful music back to the mainstream.
Let’s take things right back – when did you first fall in love with music? Can you share the story of how your musical journey began? What was the first moment that made you realize music was something you had to pursue?
“I must’ve been five, maybe six, attending a Montessori school where music was a big part of our day. After one of our Music Circles, the teacher pulled me and a friend aside and said, “You girls can sing.” It was the first time anyone had acknowledged my voice—or even suggested that singing was something you could be naturally good at.”
“From that moment on, I had this quiet but powerful confidence in one thing: I could sing. It came naturally, and I never felt the need for lessons. That small moment of recognition meant so much, especially because I was an incredibly shy child. Music became the thing that balanced me, a way to be seen and heard when I didn't quite know how to express myself any other way. From that point forward, music was everything.”
Can you walk us through your latest project? What inspired it, how did it come together, and what does it mean to you? Is there an overarching message or a lyric that felt like the emotional heart of the release?
“The inspiration behind ‘Just Go’ comes from a maxim I live by: ‘You don’t know unless you go’. That phrase has always reminded me to step out of my comfort zone, to say yes to experience even when I’m uncertain. ‘Just Go’ isn’t about taking wild risks—it’s about the quiet bravery of taking that first step into the unknown.”
“I wrote this song to encourage listeners to leave the familiar behind and explore what might be waiting. It could be something small and beautiful, or it could change your life—but you won’t know unless you go. To me, that’s the heart of the song. It’s an invitation to live fully, and it’s one of the most personal messages I’ve ever put into a track.”
Were there any artists, life experiences, or specific moments that deeply influenced this project? How do those influences show up in the sound, lyrics, or overall vibe?
“The entire song is influenced by life—specifically, the culmination of my experiences at age 43. It’s deeply personal but intentionally universal. The vibe is heartwarming and inspirational, and I think we achieved that balance of message and emotion.”
What does your songwriting process typically look like? Do you start with lyrics, melody, or a vibe? Do you prefer to write alone or collaborate?
“For me, it always begins with the lyrics. Either I know the message I want to share, or a line comes to me out of nowhere—and that’s where I start. I write down everything I can about that idea, all the nuances and angles. Then I edit and shape it into a structure—verse, chorus, bridge—sometimes adding space for an instrumental moment, depending on the emotional weight of a lyric.”
“Only after the lyrics take shape do I think about the music. I start humming the words, playing with melodies, chords, and tempo until something feels right. Then I bring it into the studio and collaborate with my producers to elevate the sound. I love writing alone to craft the message, but collaboration helps bring the full vision to life. My favourite part is watching a raw idea evolve into a fully realized song.”
When you’re in the studio or writing, what feels most important to you—emotional honesty, originality, connection with the audience?
“The most important thing for me is filling a gap I feel exists in today’s musical landscape. There’s a lack of adult contemporary music that tells rich, relatable stories—songs with clarity, authenticity, and vocals that don’t rely on autotune. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel, but I do want to bring depth and meaning back to the mainstream. My goal is to offer listeners something lasting—something with emotional substance.”
How would you describe the sonic identity of this release? Has your sound changed over time? Did you take any creative risks?
“The sonic identity of ‘Just Go’ is universality. I intentionally wrote it so that anyone—regardless of age, gender, or background—could relate to the message and feel something. The lyrics are simple and uplifting, and the music mirrors the emotion, ebbing and flowing in support of the words. I was a little nervous it might come across as too “simple,” but the response has been incredibly positive. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the most powerful.”
What challenges—creative or personal—did you face while working on this release? How did you overcome them?
“Surprisingly, there weren’t any major challenges with this one. The lyric writing followed my usual process, and recording with my producer, Dallas Jack, in Nashville was a dream. It was pure joy watching the song come to life.”
What advice would you give to up-and-coming artists still finding their voice? What have you learned about staying true to your artistry?
“For emerging artists, my biggest piece of advice is – don’t take guidance from people who have a financial stake in your success. Instead, trust your instincts and listen to your audience. Staying true to yourself is the most valuable thing you can do. Authenticity creates connection, and that’s what ultimately builds a lasting career.”
Looking back, what’s been the most surreal or meaningful moment in your music journey so far?
“One of the most surreal moments was finding out I’d been selected by Young Outlaw Music for a distribution deal—out of what must have been hundreds of other artists. That moment validated all the work I’ve put into this over the last year and a half, and it reignited my mission to bring thoughtfulness and meaning back into music.”
Do you have any upcoming performances or events?
“Yes! I’ll be performing at the Cutting Edge CE Conference / Springboard Fest in New Orleans from August 13–16, with my set scheduled for Saturday, August 16. My live shows are all about emotional connection—and no autotune.”
Any final thoughts for fans or new listeners?
“I just want to say thank you to everyone who’s listening. I hope the music is resonating with you. We’re all connected through shared experiences, and I believe we’re made stronger by recognising that.”
