Thanks for joining us today, Keef! Let’s jump straight into the questions. How did your musical journey begin, and who or what first inspired you to start writing?
“I first started making music when I was in the 6th grade with DJ SnS’s son, Lil SnS. It was three of us. We called ourselves Young Ryders cause we wanted to get signed to Ruff Ryders. We all were located in Manhattanville projects. I’ve been writing and trying to figure out my story since I was 10 years old. What and who really inspired me was Kanye West with ‘The College Dropout’ and Cassidy with all his Smack DVD freestyles. That’s what made me want to be a rap artist. My first rap name was Krazy Keef, lol.”
Could you tell us about your latest project and what this body of work represents to you?
“My latest release is a three-part series of ‘ByKEEF’. I dropped ‘BYKEEF4U’ in November 2025, then I dropped ‘BYKEEF4U2’ on June 22nd, and I plan on dropping ‘BYKEEFX3’ in September. These songs are stories of the good and bad things about being a boy with joy in America.”
Were there any specific films, artists, or experiences that influenced you while writing this series?
“I watched the Ray Charles biopic before I started writing and recording the ‘BYKEEF’ series.”
What does your typical songwriting process look like? How did these tracks come together?
“My songwriting process is taking long rides on the MTA trains, sitting in parks, meditating on the past, and going to art galleries.”
How would you describe the sound of this current release, and how has your overall style evolved over time?
“The sound on my latest release is art meets Black boy joy. There’s been a change in my style. Before, I was very chill, not too motivated, but then it gradually elevated to ‘you gotta get it now’.”
Is there a central theme or message you want listeners to take away from this music?
“The message I’m trying to convey on my latest project is art can bring you back to life if you appreciate it the right way.”
Looking ahead, what are your main aspirations as an artist over the next few years?
“My aspirations are touring all over the world, letting the world hear my message that art can bring you back to life. And where I see myself in the next few years is at the Grammys, winning Best Hip Hop Album or song.”

“I have a show on August 28th at 7:00 pm at Trixx Lounge in Indianapolis (10030 E Washington St, Indianapolis, IN 46229). Tickets are available here.”

“One thing I would like to say to the audience is... poem: Grandma said, “Baby, eat—you think too much.” I grabbed one more wing… she said, “Not that much!” We laugh through storms with rhythm and grace—cause any minute, you can be replaced.”
