Across an impressive discography, singer-songwriter JP.Kazadi has continuously redefined his musical identity. Seamlessly weaving soul and R&B with indie, pop, and global rhythms, his artistic approach resists simple categorisation. Today marks a significant milestone in that journey with the release of his seventh studio album, ‘Pure Aura’—a refreshing, deeply resonant body of work where stripped-back acoustic moments meet vibrant, full-scale production.
In this exclusive interview, we dive deep into the roots of JP.Kazadi's musical journey, tracing his path from childhood choir harmonies to his latest release. We explore the rich 1950s and 60s global influences that shaped the album's sound, his core songwriting process, the empowering spiritual message at the heart of the project, and what lies ahead for him on stage and in the studio.
Thank you so much for joining us today, JP.Kazadi! When did you first start making music? Where did it all begin, and what inspired you?
"I was in kids’ choir then in a main choir. After that, I was in a vocal singing group with my brothers till the uni years, the outcome of that was the continuation of the path I am on now as an artist."
Can you tell us a bit about your latest release, ‘Pure Aura’, and what it means to you?
"The seventh album, titled ‘PURE AURA’, is continually evolving and deepening the essence of my artistry. The project is a solid, refreshing sound on which beautiful melodies, orchestrations, and productions vary between stripped approaches and full-on productions, transporting audiences into empowering, transcending, powerful songs and themes. The album is a gem; the core intent is to illuminate listeners to the beauty in them and around in our world."
Were there any specific artists, moments, or experiences that influenced you while writing this album?
"I am a huge listener of various genres of music. One thing that kept my attention was all the great albums released in the 50s and 60s for various great artists sourcing from Latin America, Africa and the Caribbean. I kept indulging in the loose freedom of sound and structure of their approaches."
What was your overall songwriting process for the album? How did the tracks come together?
"The protocol of writing was pretty much based on the central theme I had for the album and other minor subjects which, in a way, interlinked for the main theme."
How would you describe the overall sound of this record, and how has your style evolved since you first started out?
"There is a strong tropical Latin, Afrofusion and Caribbean essence in most of the up-tempo songs, which is a different path compared to previous projects, the other songs are laid-back, stripped-down pop/soul acoustic."
Is there a central message or theme you aimed to convey, or a key moment that captures the essence of the record?
"The purpose of this record is fundamentally to draw the listener to the power that lies in our inner and external being, which I believe contains tremendous light for positivity, as the creator made us all."
What sort of reception have you had to ‘Pure Aura’ so far? Have any particular reactions stood out to you?
"Listeners have been mostly highlighting the fact that the project is very uplifting and stands out in its authentic vibes."
Looking ahead, what are your aspirations as an artist over the next few years, both musically and personally?
"To keep on making good music, to grow, expand in the craft of art and as a brand."
What is next on the agenda for you after this release? Are there live shows or upcoming projects on the horizon?
"There are a few gigs lined up and a lot of promo engagement."
Is there anything you would like to say directly to our audience today?
"Check out my new album, ‘PURE AURA’, all access to my art can be done via the streaming platform, and thank you for all."
